HISTORY OF ALPHA LAMBDA TAU Alpha Lambda Tau International Social Fraternity was founded by action of the Board of Directors on June 6, 1999 in Las Vegas, Nevada USA. In the Fall of 1999, ALT became a recognized not-for-profit corporation in the State of Indiana. The founding Board of Directors consisted of Eleven members of which 10 immediately became Alumni Brothers of the Alpha Chapter. The remaining brother, an undergraduate student at UNLV became the only active member of the Alpha Chapter and its' founding President. In the 2000 school year, the Beta Chapter at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) became the second recognized chapter. In the year 2000, five interest groups filed with the National Office for official recognition (Florida State University, Marshall University, Murray State University, New York University, Arizona State University). Also in the year 2000, Marshall University, New York University, and Arizona State University filed for Colony Status Recognition. The ALTAU Foundation (Alpha Lambda Tau Alumni Union) was formed in the Spring of 2000 and a pending 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation in the State of Indiana. Alpha Lambda Tau gave its first official scholarships to students attending the Millennium Youth Conference in Las Vegas on July 14, 2000. The first academic scholarships were given in the Fall 2000 Semester to two members of the Alpha Chapter at UNLV in the amount of $800 each. These scholarships were donated by Christian Dahlstrom, a founding Alumni Member of Alpha Lambda Tau Fraternity. |
